Thousands of people across Maryland gather to take part in one of the most powerful community events of the year: the Greater Maryland Heart Walk. Hosted by the American Heart Association (AHA), the walk is more than just a fundraiser or a day in the city. It is a movement of people united by a shared purpose: to save lives, honor survivors, and build a healthier future for generations to come.

This year, Rescue One Training for Life, Inc. is proud to play a leading role in that mission. Jeremy Gruber, co-founder at Rescue One, has stepped forward as the Chair of the 2025 Greater Maryland Heart Walk, bringing both personal passion and professional commitment to this vital cause.

The Heart Walk: A Tradition of Saving Lives

The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is one of the most significant community health events in the country, drawing millions of participants nationwide each year. The Baltimore walk, set for October 4, 2025, at the Camden Yards Sports Complex, will unite companies, families, and community leaders across Greater Maryland to raise funds for lifesaving research and education.

The Heart Walk is built on the understanding that heart disease and stroke remain the leading causes of death worldwide. While medical advances have improved outcomes, the statistics remain sobering: every 40 seconds in the United States, someone experiences a heart attack or stroke. These aren’t just numbers. They are our coworkers, neighbors, parents, and friends. The Heart Walk exists to change those numbers by fueling scientific discovery, spreading awareness, and empowering people with the knowledge and tools they need to act when it matters most.

Leading by Example

As President of Rescue One and now Chair of the Heart Walk, Jeremy Gruber represents the intersection of community leadership and professional expertise in life-saving education. His role is not simply honorary; it is a reflection of his lifelong commitment to building what he calls a “Nation of Lifesavers.”

In his recent video message, Jeremy spoke about the importance of the Heart Walk in bringing people together for a cause that touches every family in some way. His vision is both simple and profound: if more people are trained in CPR, more AEDs are placed in public spaces, and more awareness is spread about heart health, lives will be saved. The Heart Walk is one of the most effective platforms to inspire that change.

Rescue One’s Mission and the Heart Walk

At Rescue One, our mission has always been to equip people with the knowledge, skills, and tools to save lives. Through CPR, AED, and first aid training, we prepare individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations to respond confidently in moments of crisis.

The alignment between Rescue One’s mission and the goals of the American Heart Association could not be clearer. The funds raised through the Heart Walk support CPR education, AED initiatives, and cardiovascular research, the same priorities that guide our work every day. By walking, fundraising, and spreading awareness, we are helping to create communities where bystanders don’t freeze when someone collapses. Instead, they step in, act quickly, and give that person the best possible chance to survive.

When we say every step makes a difference, we mean it literally. Each donation and each mile walked brings us closer to a future where more cardiac emergencies end in survival rather than tragedy.

Why This Year Matters

The 2025 Heart Walk carries added urgency. The American Heart Association has set bold goals for research funding and lifesaving education, and the Greater Maryland region is aiming to raise $1.4 million this year. These dollars will go directly toward advancing treatments, supporting families, and expanding CPR and AED training in our communities.

For Rescue One, this year also marks a chance to amplify our message of preparedness on a larger stage. As laws evolve to require AEDs in more workplaces, schools, and restaurants, the importance of education cannot be overstated. An AED on the wall is only as powerful as the people who know how to use it. The Heart Walk is our opportunity to remind Marylanders that lifesaving is a shared responsibility.

Stories That Inspire Action

Behind every statistic is a story. We’ve all seen headlines about lives saved in airports, schools, or sports fields because an AED was nearby and someone stepped forward to use it. We’ve also heard the heartbreaking accounts where help didn’t come quickly enough. These stories underline the importance of the Heart Walk and the resources it supports.

For Rescue One, these stories are personal. Each time we train a student, teacher, or employee, we know that person could be the difference-maker for someone’s spouse, child, or colleague. Every class we teach is a step toward a safer community. That same belief is what drives the Heart Walk: when people come together, lives are saved.

How You Can Get Involved and Donate

If you can’t join in person, consider making a donation to support the cause. Your contribution directly fuels lifesaving research, community CPR training, and AED awareness programs.

Most importantly, spread the word. Share Jeremy Gruber’s message. Discuss the Heart Walk with your coworkers, classmates, or neighbors. Awareness is contagious, and together, we can spark a movement that reaches far beyond the event itself.

Building a Nation of Lifesavers

The American Heart Association’s mission is to create a world free from heart disease and stroke. Rescue One’s mission is to ensure people have the tools and training to save lives when emergencies strike. At the 2025 Greater Maryland Heart Walk, those two missions come together in a powerful way.

With Jeremy Gruber leading as Chair, and with our community walking side by side, we have a chance to do more than raise money. We have an opportunity to raise hope, awareness, and action.

Every step, every donation, and every voice matters. Together, we can walk toward a healthier future and build the Nation of Lifesavers that Jeremy envisions.

On October 4, join Rescue One at Camden Yards. Walk with us. Stand with us. Save lives with us.
