AHA BLS Instructor Course
Approximately a 16 – 18 hour course designed to train interested candidates to become American Heart Association BLS Instructors. The course consists of approximately 2 hours of individual on-line study (Instructor Essentials) with an additional 8-10 hours of classroom training and practice. Students are also required to observe a minimum of four AHA courses (in the discipline they wish to teach) and be observed/monitored teaching at least two courses on their own. Successful completion of all required course components, together with successful monitoring, results in Instructor Certification for a period of two years. In order to maintain instructor status, instructors must be aligned with an AHA Training Center and teach a minimum of two AHA courses per year, for the two-year certification period. At the end of each certification period, the instructor’s Training Center will monitor the instructor teaching a course and administer a BLS written exam and skills test to determine his or her renewal status.
