AHA PALS Initial Class (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Approximately a 16 hour course designed for healthcare providers who initiate or direct advanced pediatric care, beyond basic life support, either in or out of the hospital. Course work focuses on the identification and treatment of medical conditions contributing to pediatric cardiac arrest; recognition and management of a child in respiratory distress or failure and/or compensated or hypotensive shock; recognition and management of bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia and arrest rhythms; assessment and treatment of the seriously ill or injured child. Course cost includes the Student Provider Manual which is shipped to the student upon prepayment. Upon successful course completion, with a passing score on the written exam, students receive an AHA PALS Provider certification eCard valid for two years. (Note: BLS certification is not included in this course.)
Note: Course cost includes the PALS Student Manual. A required online pre-course self-assessment must be completed before the start of class, showing a minimum 70% passing score. Students must print and bring their “self-assessment scores” to the first day of class.
PALS Renewal (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Approximately a 6 – 8 hour course designed for students who are currently PALS and BLS certified. Course work contains obligatory AHA lectures and reviews BLS CPR; the identification and treatment of medical conditions contributing to pediatric cardiac arrest; recognition and management of a child in respiratory distress or failure and/or compensated or hypotensive shock; recognition and management of bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia and arrest rhythms; assessment and treatment of the seriously ill or injured child. Course cost includes the Student Provider Manual which is shipped to the student upon prepayment. Upon course completion, with a passing score on the written exam and successful completion of the skills evaluations, students receive an AHA PALS Provider certification card valid for two years. AHA PALS Blended Learning Course
This is a blended learning course for PALS Provider certification. It consists of an online didactic learning and testing portion – PART 1 (approximately 6 – 14 hours); and a classroom skills session – PART 2 (approximately 2 hours). Referred to as “Heartcode PALS”, the online portion of the course is accessed by entering a “key code” on the AHA student website. After completing the online course, students enroll in PART 2 and attend a classroom skills check session, testing practical skills for: Single rescuer pediatric CPR and AED use; Airway management; Megacode testing. Upon successful completion of these classroom skills, students will receive an AHA PALS Provider certification card, valid for two years. Note: This course is designed for renewal students only.
